Jawa Power has received PROPER GOLD Award 2016. The trophy was handed over directly by the Indonesian Vice President, Mr Jusuf Kalla, to the President Director of the company, Mr Wichard von Harrach, during Awarding Ceremony at the Vice Presidential Palace on Wednesday, 7 December 2016. The event was also attended by the Minister of Living Environment & Forestry (KLHK), Mrs Siti Nurbaya.
This is the second GOLD Award for Jawa Power, after the first one in 2013, and Jawa Power remains the only coal-fired power station in Indonesia which has received PROPER GOLD Award.
PROPER is mandatory for all Indonesian companies which production/operational process creates impacts to the environment. This year, 1930 companies were evaluated by the Ministry of Living Environment & Forestry. There are 12 companies receiving GOLD Award, 172 companies have been classified Green, 1422 Blue, 284 Red and 5 Black. 35 companies were not announced as they are either no longer operational or under legal proceedings.
The PROPER evaluation criteria include Innovation, Environmental Management System, Energy Efficiency, Emission (GHG) Reduction, Water Efficiency, Hazardous Waste Reduction & Management, Waste Reduce-Reuse-Recycle, Biodiversity and Community Development. PROPER aims to motivate companies to adopt green economy principles. The evaluation is not focused on the amount of money spent, but on the extent of output or multiplier effect to the environment and community.
The second PROPER Gold Award confirms Jawa Power’s commitment and continuous efforts towards preservation of the environment and development of the community.
